Compliance Specialist

About The Role

The Compliance Specialist monitors business processes and performs routine audits to identify potential compliance risks. The Compliance Specialist, under the direction of the Compliance Manager, will also help implement new policies, systems, or controls designed to reduce risk. Ensures organization adherence to all agency, State, Federal, and OTDA/DHS/HRA policies and 

regulations.

What You'll Do

Regulatory Compliance & Auditing

  • Monitor and interpret HSNY, State, Federal, and OTDA/DHS/HRA regulations, ensuring the agency is up to date with current policies and compliance processes.
  • Conduct routine audits and proactively identify potential compliance risks and areas of non-compliance across the agency.
  • Report compliance breaches and exposures to the VP of Compliance, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are taken.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of corporate compliance requirements and related laws and regulations as mandated or recommended by HRA, DHS, and other agencies.
  • Collect and maintain monthly referral logs, service outcomes, linkages, MOU linkages from providers. 

Training & Education

  • Educate and train staff in compliance with regulatory and legal requirements, fostering a culture of compliance within the organization.
  • Educate and train staff in compliance with agency archiving processes. 
  • As needed, organize and facilitate quality assurance (QA) training for program staff to ensure understanding and implementation of QA principles and practices.

Quality Assurance & Performance Monitoring

  • Maintain the data and monitor staff performance for various programs through several tracking mechanisms. This includes reviewing daily and weekly documentation i.e., daily signature logs, wellness checks, Narcan Shift logs, Incident Report logs, Staff training logs, etc.  
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate quality improvement and quality assurance projects, ensuring compliance with DHS/HRA/OTDA mandates.
  • Assist programs in developing, implementing, and tracking quality improvement indicators, ensuring data is collected and coordinated in a timely manner.
  • Provide indicator data to the Compliance Manager for analysis, performance evaluation, and progress monitoring toward meeting regulatory targets.
  • Recommend and communicate opportunities for improvement, sharing lessons learned and best practices with the Compliance Manager.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Coordinates with HRA and site staff to track, monitor, and report facility placements, unit assignments, vacancies, and closures. 
  • Support various departments by collecting, coordinating, and reporting internal compliance data to ensure complete, accurate, and timely submission to the Compliance Manager.
  • Assist the Compliance Manager in evaluating the effectiveness of current compliance strategies and suggest improvements as needed.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
  • Ability to travel required.
  • Knowledge of any relevant regulatory standards or compliance requirements.
  • Computer proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Experience with Not-for-Profit Organizations required.
  • Experience with DHS, HRA, OTDA preferred.

  • Attention to detail, Strong research skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, highly developed sense of ethics, presentation skills, and report writing skills.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10-15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and distance vision. Must be able to travel within the five boroughs of New York City using all modes of public transportation.
