In partnership with the New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS), Housing Solutions of New York operates 12 Tier II Transitional Housing facilities and 6 commercial hotel sites across four boroughs. HSNY’s Temporary Transitional Housing program provides safe, stable housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness as they work toward permanent housing solutions.
HSNY also operates a Welcome Center for New Yorkers experiencing street homelessness, offering immediate shelter and connection to essential services. From the moment clients arrive, they are supported with resources and care that help them begin their journey toward stability and long-term housing.
HSNY’s Temporary Transitional Housing program serves families with children, and single adult men. Across 18 shelter facilities, HSNY supports more than 2,500 clients at any given time.
The populations we serve include individuals and families from the general shelter population as well as asylum seekers. Regardless of background or circumstance, the program is designed to empower clients as they work toward permanent housing and greater independence.
HSNY staff work closely with clients throughout their stay to ensure consistent support and progress toward permanent housing.
Participation in HSNY’s Temporary Transitional Housing program offers stability during a critical period of uncertainty. Clients benefit from a safe living environment that allows them to focus on housing, addressing barriers to stability and securing permanent.
The program helps clients build housing readiness, navigate the complex housing environments of New York, and strengthen the skills needed for independent living. In addition, HSNY fosters community connections by promoting Group meetings and community activities in order to promote a sense of belonging among clients and staff.
By combining housing with coordinated services and personalized guidance, the program supports individuals and families in crisis and ushers them toward permanent housing, stability, and long-term self-sufficiency.
Clients are referred to HSNY’s Temporary Transitional Housing program through the New York City Department of Homeless Services. Placement is determined by DHS based on availability and family and individual needs.
